Yagas are classified into seven namely Agnisthomam,
Athyagnisthomam, Uktyam, Shodashi, Vajpayam, Athirathram, Apthoryamam.
Athriathram or AGNI which consist of 29 Sasthras is considered as the most important.
Athirathram can be performed according to Kausheethakam and Pakazhiyam
traditions. Pakazhiyam tradition consists of Aswalayana Rigvedies and
Boudhayana Yajurvedies. The Athirathram 2012 will be performed according to Pakazhiyam traditions. This custom
is a combination of Aswalayana and Boudhayana traditions. It is believed
that the last performance of this tradition happened about 112 years ago. First three days are called Dheekshas and next six
days are called upasaddhinangal.The last three days are called suthyam and are
considered as the most auspicious days.
